UPMC Children’s Medical Staff Gives $100,000 to Support This Moment

Medical staff at UPMC Children's

Medical staff at UPMC Children’s are showing that their dedication to our hospital’s mission goes beyond the care they provide to patients every day. Through their collective generosity, medical staff have given $100,000 in support of This Moment: Put a Child’s Future First, our largest funding campaign in Foundation history. This is also the largest collective gift medical staff has ever given to the Foundation.

Largest Collective Medical Staff Gift

The $100,000 will be applied equally to each of our four fundraising pillars: Clinical Excellence, Research, Patient Experience and Community Health.

  • Clinical Excellence
    • With this support, UPMC Children’s can remain committed to providing the highest quality care outcomes for every child through projects like the new Heart Institute which is currently under construction and expanding in scope.
  • Research
    • By supporting This Moment, medical staff are helping to advance the ideas and innovations that lead to tomorrow’s cures. With federal funding being so limited, this gift will give our researchers the freedom to pursue bold work that might not otherwise find support.
  • Patient Experience
    • Vital programs at our hospital such as Child Life, social work, supportive and palliative care, and others are not reimbursable by insurance. This gift will help build endowments to secure the future of these programs.
  • Community Health
    • With this investment in Community Health, UPMC Children’s can advance programs that foster the health and well-being of children and families far beyond the hospital’s walls. This includes expanding access, improving integration, and ensuring every child has the support they need to thrive, regardless of their economic circumstances.

Continuing a Legacy

Over 20 years, medical staff have collectively given $1.3 million toward hospital programs and funds. Just a few examples of these include:

  • The Helpers Fund, created in 2020, provided financial assistance to families in response to COVID-19.
  • The Patient Transportation Fund provides vital assistance to patients and families who face barriers to accessing care.
  • The CHAMP program supports middle school students on their path to achieving higher levels of education and provides mentorship opportunities for medical students who are underrepresented in medicine.

“As medical staff, we see firsthand the impact that donations have on every family we meet, every treatment we provide, and every goal we have for the future,” says Dr. Kavitha Conti, who serves as the president of medical staff at UPMC Children’s. “We are proud to support UPMC Children’s with this gift, and proud to be part of this legacy.”

This steadfast generosity serves as a continuation of the legacy of giving at UPMC Children’s. The hospital was founded on philanthropy in 1887 when Dr. Frank LeMoyne raised the funds to endow a single cot for pediatric care at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital.

We thank the dedicated staff at UPMC Children’s, not only for their dedication to providing excellent care to patients and their families, but for their consistent generosity.

If you would like to join the medical staff at UPMC Children’s in their support, give today. Your donation symbolizes your commitment to join the effort to revolutionize children’s health.
