Ryder is a Champion
Ryder McDermitt, a Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC patient with an infectious grin and a positive outlook, took center stage at the Robinson Township Walmart when he was introduced as Pennsylvania’s 2010 representative for the Children’s Miracle Network’s Champions Across America program.
Champions Across America, presented by Walmart and Sam’s Club, is designed to bring attention to the important work being done at pediatric hospitals across the country, and to honor remarkable children who have triumphed despite severe medical challenges.
Ryder, along with a designated Champion child from every state, went to Washington, DC in June to visit The White House and Capitol Hill. In November, Ryder and his fellow Champions will be treated to a trip to Disney World.
During the event announcing Ryder’s designation as Champion, Walmart officials presented him with a shopping cart full of toys and a $500 gift card to help his family purchase items in preparation for their trip to Washington.
