Chase is a fun-loving, energetic 5-year-old, whose smile and laugh light up a room.

On December 22, 2017, during the holidays, and soon after his fourth birthday, Chase was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a blood cancer affecting the white blood cells.

He was immediately admitted to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and began his treatments.

A few days later, on Christmas Eve, Chase underwent surgery to place a port in his chest, receiving his first bone marrow biopsy and spinal tap.

He just recently finished phase four of his five phase, three-and-a-half-year treatment plan.

Chase is under the care of his two oncologists, Dr. A. Kim Ritchey and Dr. Meghan McCormick. Chase’s mother, Melissa, said they have been wonderful through all of this. “I can’t say enough about the amazing doctors and nurses at Children’s. They truly care for their patients and they’ve become like family.”

While this is such a difficult journey for us, we know we can trust Children’s to give the very best care for Chase. Not only do they address his needs, but they also address the needs of the whole family. They encourage Chase’s siblings to come to appointments or to visit when we are having ‘sleepovers’ in the hospital,” she said.

During Chase’s hospital stays, he has attended the prom and participated in yoga. “I couldn’t ask for a better place for Chase to receive his care. Children’s Hospital is the very best,” Melissa said.
