Culture of Caring Every day, employees and professional staff like you make a tremendous impact throughout the hospital. With your generous donations, the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation is able fund vital research, provide life-changing therapies, improve the lives of kids, and so much more. CHP Cares is a new and exciting initiative that encourages staff to get involved, give back, and make a real difference all year long. Our employees are truly our best ambassadors, and it is through their philanthropy that we can ensure the mission and vision of Children’s Hospital stays strong. Together, let’s show everyone that CHP Cares! A goal of Children’s Hospital is to leave a lasting impression in the community and in the hearts of our patients and their families. This is just one of the many reasons I am proud to be a part of Children’s Hospital. Each year when asked to donate to the Team Children’s campaign, the answer is a simple yes. Why wouldn’t I want to give to cause in which we as employees support daily? I know that every dollar I contribute goes towards the fund of my choosing. I like that I can select a fund that is near to my heart. My dear friend lost a child to a heart defect. Each year I select the heart fund in his memory. Allowing for a simply payroll deduction through Team Children’s gives me the opportunity to give back in a quick and easy way.-Cory Vogel, Director, Human Resources, Children’s Community Pediatrics Each day Children’s dedicated staff provide excellent care for our “kids” and their families. Many of these children hold a special place in our hearts. There are remarkable stories of hope and healing that unfold here every day. A place where our patients aren’t just sick children – they are kids! A place where their learning, development, and playfulness are continuously encouraged. A place where colorful walls, animated storylines, and playrooms are surrounding them at every turn. A place where they are not only receiving individualized, top of the line medical care, but where they are celebrated for being brave and strong and silly. A 4-year-old patient, as part of his care, needed Radiation Therapy every day for 6 weeks. The Radiation Therapy room is decorated in a beach theme. The radiation machine is a “sandcastle”, the table is a “dune buggy”, and the generator is a “hot dog stand”. He was so afraid of this treatment he would not go into the room. When the staff discovered one of his favorite toys were Legos, they printed out pictures of Legos and placed them on the wall the whole way back to the treatment room. They gave the patient stickers to place on each Lego picture until he was back in the room. They would play with Legos or watch YouTube videos of them every day. Soon the patient was laughing and asking, “Is it time to go to the beach? I want to go to the beach!” The staff and the distraction environment changed this child’s experience from being terrified to being genuinely excited to receive his daily radiation treatment! The donation funds that are used to create a safe, childlike environment make each day for the staff and the “kids” truly amazing.-Kathleen Kapsin, Director of Radiology I am proud to say that I am part of such an amazing event. It is inspirational to see the time and effort that the employees put forth to support such a great cause.-Jim Majsak, Director of Hospitality and Public Safety I like the fact that I can give a little and it can help out the kids a lot!-Curt Rice, Manager of Public Safety For questions or more information, contact a Children's Foundation representative at firstname.lastname@example.org.
