Fifth Annual DVE Rocks for Children’s Radiothon Sets New Record

You ROCK! Thanks to your generosity, we raised $535,842 during the Fifth Annual DVE Rocks for Children’s Radiothon which concluded on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The money raised during Radiothon will support the most urgent needs of the hospital- the needs that insurance does not cover; the compassionate care for the entire family; and all the other support services that make Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC so special.

WDVE 102.5 on-air talent Randy Baumann, and the rest of the DVE Morning Show, Michele Michaels and Sean McDowell shared remarkable stories about patients and families, and the doctors and nurses who provide their care, more than 30 hours of programming over three days.

If you tuned in, you may have heard 7-year-old Children’s Hospital patient, Sam call his chemotherapy treatments “a piece of cake” or tell DVE listeners that Children’s “wouldn’t be the same without the Child Life program.” You also may have been touched by the Lewis family’s story of their brave 5-month-old son Cael, who has endured countless procedures in his young life to mend his tiny heart.

This year’s Radiothon featured special musical performances from Imagine Dragons and Matchbox 20’s Kyle Cook and Rob Thomas, as well as a live broadcast of DVE’s Steelers Huddle hosted by Emmanuel Sanders, LaMarr Woodley, and Tunch Ilkin. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and defensive end Brett Keisel, along with Hollywood celebrity Billy Gardell, star of the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly, also called-in to show their support.

The sponsors of this year's Radiothon were Ace Hardware, Berger & Green, Equitable Gas, Express Scripts, Great Clips, Jergel’s Rhythm Grille, and Rohrich Toyota.

A special thank you to WDVE, Children’s faculty, staff, volunteers, sponsors, community members, and donors who helped make this year’s event a huge success!
