Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation Board Chairman, Howard W. “Hoddy” Hanna III (left) and Board member David Perlmutter, MD (right), congratulate Albert Lexie for being named an “All-Star Among Us” on behalf of the volunteer work he does for Children’s Hospital. | Volunteer Albert Lexie has been named one of Major League Baseball’s “All-Stars Among Us” for the extraordinary work he does on behalf of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
It’s an honor that Albert greatly deserves.
For almost 30 years, Albert has taken the bus from his home in Monessen, PA to Children’s Hospital in order to shine the shoes of visitors, physicians, employees, and others, and has donated all of his tips – $150,000 to date – to the Free Care Fund, which provides medical care to children whose families cannot afford it.
Albert calls them his “kids.”
The “All-Stars Among Us” campaign, sponsored by PEOPLE magazine and Major League Baseball (MLB), recognizes individuals who go above and beyond for their communities, typically located within each city that has a MLB team. Albert will be representing Pittsburgh and the Pirates.
Albert and a guest will fly to Anaheim, California and will be introduced and honored during a special ceremony prior to the MLB’s All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 13 at 8 p.m. The game will be televised locally on the FOX affiliate.
Honor Albert for the volunteer work he does for the kids as Children’s Hospital by making a donation to Albert’s Kids.
